Carrollton boys golf team wins district title
Jaxon Rinkes shot 71 to share medalist honors andlead Carrollton to the team title in Monday’s Division IIboys golf district tournament atEagleSticks.
Rinkes and Sandy Valley’s Connor Ritter finished tied atop the leaderboard. Ritter earned one of the fourindividual state berths.
The Warriors shot 312. They finished four strokes ahead of runner-up John Glenn.
TuskyValley’s Connor Gardner wins district title
Only one individual state berth was available in the Division III boys golf district tournament at River Greens.
TuskyValley’s Connor Gardner grabbed it and a winner’s medal.
Gardner shot 73 to earn medalist honors. He finished three strokes ahead of Hiland’s Carter Mishler.
Hiland easily won the team title. The Hawks finished 42 shots ahead of runner-up Fort Frye.
Marlington’s Charlie Mort survives playoff
Marlington’s birdied the first playoff hole and advanced out of the Division I boys golf sectional tournament at Windmill Lakes.
Mort shot 78 andemerged from the four-man playoff. Warren Harding’s AnthonyPayiaviasparred the first playoff hole and earned the other individual district berth.
Top seeds move on at Division I tennis sectional
Top-seeded Tess Bucher of Hoover easily won her first two matches on the first day of the Division Igirlstennis sectional tournament at Jackson Park.
Bucher did not lose a game in advancing to Wednesday’s quarterfinals. She will face Dover’s Taylor Rose.
Second-seeded Ava Valko will take on Hoover’s Bridget Fink quarterfinals. The other matchups will third-seeded Rachel Kibler of Louisville against Jackson’s Rachael Williams and fourth-seeded Lily Altman of Hoover against Green’sEvie Pryor.
The top four doubles seeds also moved on to the quarterfinals.
Top-seeded Madison Altman and Paige Reese of Jackson will face McKinley’s Elaina Shaheen and Lauren Rogers.No. 2 seed Isabelle Warburton and AngelinaKloinoglouof Hoover will meet Boardman’s Mia Hammerton and Kira Vasko. Third-seeded Claire Wood andCecilaHolban of Hoover will play Wadsworth’s Emily Guenther and Chloe Porter.Fourth-seeded Divya Shanmugan and Abby Williams of Jackson will take onCanfield’s Amelia Francisco and Whitney Miller.
