Virgil van Dijk has signed a contract extension with Liverpool - keeping him at the club for two more years and resolving another potential headache for Arne Slot - and now fans in the Liverpool ECHO comments section are warning another player that could depart Anfield soon that the "grass isn't always greener."
The Reds' captain was due to have his contract expire this summer, but the new terms will keep him on until 2027. Fellow Liverpool hero Mohamed Salah recently signed an extension, too, but Trent Alexander-Arnold looks set to move to Spanish giants Real Madrid when the transfer window opens, ending a long association with his boyhood club, if the latest whispers play out as predicted.
Van Dijk was always going to be in-demand by clubs in Europe and further afield - but his statement says that he only had eyes for Liverpool. He said: "I'm very happy, very proud. There are so many emotions obviously that go through my head right now speaking about it. It's a proud feeling, it's a feeling of joy. It's just incredible. The journey I've had so far in my career, to be able to extend it with another two years at this club is amazing."

"It was always Liverpool. That was the case. It was always in my head, it was always the plan."
Supporters are, naturally, delighted to see Van Dijk stick around, and some wonder if Alexander-Arnold may now be persuaded to stay. Reader Eamonspain says: "This is great news. I always knew the skipper would sign a new contract and by holding on to our best talent, we're making ourselves stronger. We'll save a bunch of money in the summer, much to the chagrin of those that want bottomless sums to waste on players that will weaken us.
"I think Trent's head has already been turned but, maybe with Mo and Virgil signing, and with the latest result, he may realise the grass isn't greener in Madrid."
Commenter Johnnyedwards thinks it's already a done deal: "Excellent news, along with the Mo signing. Obviously Trent Alexander-Arnold is on his way so good luck to him. I'm only interested in players who are committed to our great club. Play Conor [Bradley] at right-back for the rest of the season, as our starter for next season. Hopefully he will remain injury-free."
ScouseIan says: "Excellent, both he and Salah could even play past that two years, They can come off the bench and influence the field of play in the years afterwards. I remember Gary McAllister doing that and winning games and trophies. Still holding some hope that Trent will decide to stay."

Redmenforeever writes: "Good stuff. The foundations for next season have now been laid. Three or four decent buys this summer and it'll be a stronger Liverpool next season."
Redrum68 says: "Great news for us and Van Dijk. Why would anyone want to leave to go to a weaker league?"
Have your say! Could Trent Alexander-Arnold stay now that other contract issues have been resolved at Liverpool? Should he stay? Comment below, and join in on the conversation.
